This week the Southern Baptist Convention caught a bit of publicity that they may not like. It seems that a religious magazine that is featured in their stores, Lifeway Christian Store, refused to display a magazine that featured five women as pastors. I thought it was a little peculiar that they hid the magazine from their patrons, but were still selling it...
A month or two ago a book called, "The Shack," was recommended to me. I went to the store to pick it up and when I did, an employee came right out to me and handed me a note that gave me a theological review and warning about said book. When I asked the reason for the unrequested information he responded that all employees were instructed to give this information to customers looking at this book. How strange is that?
I understand that stores have the right to sell whatever it is they want to sell. They have the right to not post or distribute offensive material. But these two items were hardly inflamatory. Check out Foxnews' take on the situation.
The praise team sang this song during worship yesterday. It was written by Chris Tomlin. You can see a clip of the song and the words roll with the music. Enjoy!
Malcolm Ball has attended Beale Memorial since he was a baby. He had a stellar football career at our high school and is now playing football for Randolf Macon College in Ashland. For some reason, I thought he was playing football at Randolf Macon in Lynchburg, but that is another story...
This weekend Page and Deborah sent me a few images of his game at SUNY Maritime University in the Bronx of New York. Malcolm is getting playing time on special teams and you will see one image of him at kick-off. His number is 88.
In the background on one of the images you can see the skyline of Manhattan and the Empire State Building.
Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV) Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life--
